Champion 4 Max Toilet Leaking

It took a while to see the problem.

Call american standard and they sent out a new gasket. Locate the mounting nuts and bolts underneath the tank. Water leaks between the tank and the bowl. Had the original champion toilet that started leaking after 5 months.

Using a wrench tighten the nuts on each side one quarter turn at a time. I bought a pound of 10 gauge plain solder not acid or rosin core and wound it into a coil using a soup can. The 4 flapper valve chronically leaks but then it only has about 2 inches of water to hold it in place. Apparently that wasn t the problem as the tank cracked.

The purpose of the flush valve seal is to prevent water in the holding tank from draining until the user flushes the toilet. The clear caulking around the bowl was still clear it turns white if there is a leaking wax seal. Specifically the champion 4 brand toilet the champion 4 toilet has a defect in the seal or washer that sits on the flush valve mechanism the flush valve seal. Made the mistake of replacing the tank with another champion with the improved flush tower stamped june 2007 inside the tank in september 2007.

The good news is that since american standard has come out with the champion 4 model line there is now a decent repair that probably won t leak and is easily fixed with commonly available parts that don t have to be sent by the manufacturer after the initial upgrade of your toilet to the champion 4 style flush valve referred to as the flowise flush valve used on other toilets in the american standard line including the highly successful cadet 3 toilet. Do not turn the bolts. Any suggestions before we call american standard back. Was told to tighten the bolts evenly as tank was wobbly.
